Little
Victories

The home of the Little Victories project.

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Little Victories homepage, so what is Little Victories all about. Well it started as a project to give me some focus after I'd had major spinal surgery by ways of documenting my story. Filming the different stages of that story from good health to disability, recovery and then hopefully the completion of my first endurance cycle race. The completed piece then being entered into several Film Festivals such as Kendal Mountain Film Festival and Banff in Canada.  I'm currently post operative and doing well. Keep up to date with all the latest through my socials such as my Instagram and the Little Victories Facebook page. Just click the links above.

Thanks again, Aaron

LITTLE

VICTORIES

THE PROJECT.

Every story has a beginning a middle and an end. For me that's been from being fit to injured, surgery, rehabilitation and lastly to the hopeful completion of this project.

Beginning

The beginning in this project for me would most certainly be going from reasonable fitness and being very active whether it's walking, cycling or canoeing and ending up registered as disabled. Also this is the most sedentary I've been in my adult life and when I start to develop the Little Victories project.

Middle

I'm currently at the middle stage of Little Victories as I've just had the much needed surgery I've been waiting for at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. I'm Pleased to say the operation went well and I'm now at home and recovering well. Chronologically speaking I'm in no way in the middle of this storey. My recovery, ehabilitation and return to peak fitness is a long way off.

End

The End is simple the completion of this project, getting fit and riding Further East. The endurance cycle race based here in East Anglia, editing all the shot footage and hopefully seeing it being shown at one of the outdoor film festivals. That would be my dream fully imagined. Well part of it anyway, because I have other ideas based around Little Victories I'd love to develop. So not really the end just another chapter.

THE STORY.

I'll try not to bore you with this section and cover everything that's relevant to my story and how Little Victories came about.          Feel free to click any of the images to see the original Instagram post.

Ingrained in my DNA

From a very young age being outdoors and active was part of my daily life. Time spent with my Dad usually meant cycling, walking or canoeing. With holidays backpacking or cycling touring around the UK. There weren't many british hostels that we hadn't visited at that time. Joining the cub Scouts, then Scouts and army cadets as I got older carried on those traditions. By the time I'd reached my late teens I was off doing all those pastimes with my friends, albeit a little quicker. Especially the off-road riding, bodyboarding and skateboarding which I'd also taken up.

Soul Mates

Moving on and into family life I'm lucky enough to have found a partner that's happy for me to continue enjoying the pastimes and hobbies I have. It was clear though from the very beginning that we both had a love for the great outdoors. Especially enjoying walking together in the Peak District and gravel riding the best Suffolk has to offer. Almost thirty years together now we've not only passed that love affair we've had with nature on to our children but on to our grandchildren also.

What's the Prognosis

Throughout my life I've had various repeating health issues. Mostly to do with my back and my lung health. There is the possibility that an allergic to penicillin was the catalyst. I have Asthma that is normally under control but after an accident in 2010 that has become more difficult. Back wise it started when I was thirteen with intervention in my thirties, 2019, 2022 and finally with decompression surgery November this year (2024). Although the surgery was successful due to having Arthritis, Spinal Stenosis and Degenerative Disc Decease I will need further surgeries in the future.

Focal Point

There is an underlying theme that I want to try to explain throughout the project about the premise of "Little Victories." I had a tattoo done in my early twenties that says "Carpe Diem" (seize the day) a mantra that in my early adult life was easy to adhere too, unfortunately as I've got older and my various ailments have become harder to control siezing the day has become impossible. It's been with this realisation over the last year or two I've looked into how this must effect others who have long-term physical or mental health problems, Seizing the day is an impossibility. That's when I changed my mantra to Little Victories, it's about giving yourself the just reward you deserve for achieving smaller goals.
